How To Tie Floating Smelt Fly Tying

Video: Fly Tying - Floating Smelt

In many of the rivers here in Maine and New England we see an influx of smelt during the early spring when they are spawning. It is common to have smelt get run and churned through dams and rapids which will confuse, stun, injure, etc. them. They will float helplessly on the surface. Many times trout and salmon will stage in areas, such as directly below dams, feeding on this easy to capture bait. When this happens, the Floating Smelt will be the ticket!
