Gaspé Coastal

The coast of the Gaspé peninsula sits just north of New Brunswick and has long been known for its famous runs of Atlantic salmon, having some of the largest fish in Canada. The rivers of the Gaspe peninsula are crystal clear, clean and are some of the most beautiful in the world. On top of the incredibly special salmon fishing the area offers, its coast line contains endless flats of healthy ecosystems and a thriving striped bass population. The trip we offer is an incredibly unique hybrid striped bass/atlantic salmon experience that is designed for the open minded and flexible angler who is willing to take what nature gives. Unlike the versatile coast of Maine that contains ledges, drop offs, rock piles, flats, and beaches, the Gaspe coastline is almost exclusively flats fishing where sight fishing techniques and poling skiffs are often used to great effect. Sunny hot days that can often be unfavorable (or unethical) for salmon angling can provide some of the best days on the flats for striped bass. Conversely, cloudy low light days with miserable weather that make sight fishing impossible can often be some of the best for Atlantic salmon. There is always a fishing opportunity to be had on the coast of the Gaspe Peninsula for those who look and are flexible with what conditions present. Join us with the fine folks of Gaspe Coastal for a dynamic one-of-a-kind experience that will not disappoint!

Salmon Fishing:

The fishing on the Gaspe Peninsula is second to none. The rivers that we focus on for this trip are the Nouvelle, the Bonaventure, the Petite Cascapedia and the Grand Cascapedia. The Nouvelle, Bonaventure and Petite Cascapedia feature some of the clearest water in the world where it is almost guaranteed to spot Atlantic salmon in their lays. The Grand Cascapedia is slightly more tannic but holds the biggest fish of the 4 rivers. It is also the most exclusive. Reserved salmon water is provided in the cost of these trips. The salmon fishing here can be done with a single handed or two handed rod. Swinging flies and dry fly fishing are the 2 most common techniques. Sea-run brook trout in excess of 5lbs can also be found in these salmon rivers and targeting these trout is an option for this trip as well.

Striped Bass Fishing:

The striped bass fishing on the Gaspé coast is almost exclusively sight fishing on flats. Schools of tailing stripers is a common sight. The fishing can either be done using a poling skiff or done by walk and wade. The striped bass population has almost no angling pressure and oftentimes your fly may be the first that a fish has ever seen making the fishing quite a bit easier than targeting our highly educated striped bass populations in the states. This is a new emerging fishery that is a must have on any saltwater anglers bucketlist!
